What will fulfillment look like in the city of the future and how do we fit in?
In the summer of 2019, a team of strategists and I took a deep dive into the future of cities and subsequent implications for our current food system. Building off the work of futurists, architects, urban planners, transportation departments, and other experts, we developed five future city states that illustrate changes to the way food is produced, sourced, packaged, and distributed. We believe the food system of tomorrow will transform to become a circular, closed-loop ecosystem utilizing more frequent, small-scale deliveries to supply local food sources to restaurants and consumers. These major changes will create a resilient, efficient system that responds successfully to the forces of climate change, resource scarcity, and urbanization.
